How Home Improvement Hub works
One request, up to 3 quotes from providers in your area. It's free to request quotes, and you decide who to hire.
- 1
Tell us about the job
Choose the service you need and fill in a short form: what the job is, where you are and how to reach you. Some services ask a few extra questions, such as the size of the area, so providers can quote more accurately. There's no account to create.
- 2
Providers in your area quote
Your request goes to up to 3 registered service providers who work in your area and do that kind of job. They contact you directly, by phone or email, to discuss the work, arrange a site visit if one is needed, and send you a quote.
- 3
Compare and choose
Compare the quotes side by side, ask questions, and accept the one that suits you. You contract directly with the provider you choose. If none of the quotes suits you, you don't have to go ahead.
How to compare quotes properly
The cheapest quote isn't always the best value, and the most expensive isn't always the best work. Compare these, line by line:
The scope
Is every quote for the same job? Check that the same areas, quantities and finishes are included, and that nothing you need is listed as an extra.
Materials and specifications
Brands, thicknesses, grades and quantities. A lower price often means a different product, so ask what each quote is actually for.
Preparation
In most trades, the preparation you can't see afterwards decides how long the work lasts. It's also where cheaper quotes most often save money.
Timing
When can each provider start, how long will they be on site, and what happens if the weather or a delivery holds things up?
Payment terms
Be wary of large deposits. A sensible pattern is paying for materials when they arrive, and paying for the work in stages as it's completed.
Certificates, guarantees and registration
Where the law requires a registration or certificate, such as an electrical certificate of compliance, make sure it's included. Get guarantees in writing.
Each service page has a checklist of what to ask for that trade. Find your service.
Questions people ask
Is it really free?
Yes. Requesting quotes costs you nothing. The providers pay to receive requests, which is how the service is funded.
Will I be flooded with calls?
No. Your details go only to the providers quoting on your job, up to 3 of them.
Do I have to accept a quote?
No. Compare the quotes, ask questions, and accept one if it suits you. If none do, you don't have to go ahead.
Are the providers any good?
More than 200 registered service providers quote through our network. Compare quotes carefully, ask for references and photos of past work, and use the checklist on each service page before you hire.
How quickly will I hear back?
The service providers who quote on your job contact you directly by phone or email.
What if I'm not happy with any of the quotes?
You don't have to accept any of them. If the prices are all higher than you expected, ask each provider what's driving the cost. The answers often show what the job really needs.
Is my information safe?
